Her Life…..
Mattie Pearl Williams was born on September 5, 1931 in Omaha,
Georgia to the late Rev. T. W. Williams and Susie (Crew) Williams.
Mattie was the youngest of the first 19 siblings and the longest survivor
of that group. Mattie transitioned from this earthly life to her eternal
home on March 15, 2024 at Crowne Healthcare- Eufaula, Alabama.
Mattie received her formal education in the public schools of Barbour
County, Alabama. She was a graduate of Barbour County Training
School. Mattie united in Holy Matrimony with Mason Glover. Mattie
and Mason moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey where they lived for more
than thirty-five years before returning home to Clayton, AL. There were
no children born to this union. Mason preceded her in Death.
Mattie professed Christ as her personal savior during her youth. Upon
returning home, Mattie united into Christian fellowship with Mt. Olive
Missionary Baptist Church in Clayton and later with Bethlehem Baptist
Church in Troy, Alabama, both under the leadership of her brother-In-
law, the late Rev. E. D. Glover. Mattie remained at Bethlehem until her
health began to fail.
Mattie worked at Clayton Cleaners before moving to New Jersey. Upon
her return, she was active in the community. She served civically by
working on the polls. Mattie was known for her ability to grow the most
beautiful ferns. She was always willing to allow her ferns to be used for
weddings and other social /civic events throughout the community.
Cherished Memories….
Mattie leaves a host of family and friends to celebrate her life and to
cherish her memories. These include:
One Sister: Ollie (Rev. Eddie) Baker of Clayton, AL; One Brother: Elder
T. W. Williams of Columbus, GA; A sister-In-Law: Joann Glover of
Clayton, AL; A special nephew and niece: Charles Glover & Sybil Foster
both of Clayton, Al; A special cousin: Jett Blakley also of Clayton; along
with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
